To all of our wonderful volunteers who make our work possible: welcome back, welcome back, welcome back. We’ve missed you! Back in January, we announced that we had BIG plans for 2020, and even though COVID-19 admittedly threw a wrench into things, we still do. Our fall planting season is just around the corner and we need your help to close out the year with a bang.

This fall and through the spring, TreePeople will be planting 8,000 native trees and plants as part of our Angeles National Forest restoration efforts, 4,000 native trees as part of our Santa Monica Mountains restoration efforts, 2,000 street and park trees in the Gateway Cities, 400 street trees in Watts, and 200 street trees in San Fernando — as well as caring for thousands and thousands of trees that we’ve planted in recent planting seasons. We cannot do this work without our amazing TreePeople volunteers.

TreePeople is committed to not only continuing the same fun, community driven approach to creating a greener, more equitable Los Angeles, but also making sure our volunteers are as safe as they can be. We’re taking industry leading precautions to minimize the risk of COVID-19 at our events. All events will be held at reduced capacity and adhere to social distancing guidelines, with tools sanitized and temperature checks taken at the start of every event. Volunteers must bring their own gloves and wear a mask. There will be no walk-ups allowed, so make sure you are pre-registered.

Anyone who has come to our planting events in the past knows that they are a testament to the power of teamwork and a great way to make new friends and build community. This year, we want to expand an invitation to families and groups of volunteers living in the same household as we need your help to do critical work while following our COVID-19 protocols.

Together we can make sure that this is the best planting season yet! To stay up to date on our 2020/2021 planting events and get on the volunteer shortlist, contact volunteer@treepeople.org.

P.S.

For those of you that can’t wait to get your hands dirty and are looking to add a tree to your property right away, TreePeople is partnering with CityPlants to give away free fruit and shade trees to Los Angeles City residents. Register here and you can get up to seven free fruit and shade trees, which will be available for curbside pick-up at TreePeople’s Coldwater Canyon Park on October 3rd.

Trees received through this program must be planted in private property, in your front or back yard, not in the area between the sidewalk and the street. In addition to the yard tree delivery and “curbside pickup” program, City Plants is still planting free street trees during COVID-19 to strengthen your whole neighborhood. To sign up, fill out our Free Street Tree Application today and mention “TreePeople” when signing up!
