Prescription for Hot Cities: More Trees and Solar Reflectance
Hi Treeps,
It’s Urban Heat week and as we get closer to the Summer Solstice, the days are getting much hotter; even for our Southern California summers.
Thanks to our tree friends, we’re able to find some relief in their shade and the fresh air they provide.
Sadly, not all Californians have the same access to tree canopy and green spaces, especially in urban areas like the San Fernando Valley, South Los Angeles and Southeast Los Angeles. As a result, heat-related deaths are usually higher here than anywhere else in the region.
Check out this graphic below for more information on research that demonstrates how lives could be saved by planting more trees.
Los Angeles-based TreePeople is the region’s largest environmental movement, whose mission is to inspire, engage and support people to take personal responsibility for the urban environment. Visit us at treepeople.org and learn how you can join our cause.
